It is so encouraging when you feel like you are wading into uncharted waters to know that it has worked well for others. <br /><br />At the same time, I know plenty of people who were parented punitively and turned out well, and I am sure that some people who are not spanked make poor choices as adults. One of the keys, IMO, is that his parents didn't just *not spank*--they also actively talked and listened. There wasn't just absence of punishment; there was also true discipline and teaching.
